Silverstone Classic cancellation frees up date for F1

Organisers of the Silverstone Classic have confirmed the event’s cancellation for 2020, freeing up the date for a potential double-header British Grand Prix. Formula 1 is in discussions with the UK government over receiving an exemption from the 14-day quarantine period that is set to be introduced for international arrivals. It is understood that Prime Minister Boris Johnson has intervened in order to facilitate Formula 1’s efforts, having been keen to welcome back sporting events as part of a post-coronavirus landscape.
