Hamilton: The new engine feels clean and fresh

Would they or wouldn't they run their Spec 2 engine? That was the big question ahead of the French Grand Prix weekend as Mercedes toyed with the paddock by inexplicably keeping most guessing with regards to which power units they unboxed at Circuit Paul Ricard. A Spec-2 of the current power unit was expected to break cover in Canada, but Mercedes delayed the update due to quality issues. Throughout the first day of practice, no one but Mercedes knew what version PUs were bolted to the back of their cars.
