Bahrain GP: Vettel wins as Hamilton penalty proves costly
Sebastian Vettel scored his second victory of the season in the Bahrain Grand Prix, as Ferrari outfoxed Mercedes on race strategy again – and Lewis Hamilton incurred a costly pitlane penalty. Valtteri Bottas led from his first-ever pole position, as Vettel outdragged Hamilton for second position into Turn 1. Vettel hounded Bottas in the opening stint, before taking an aggressively-early first pitstop in an attempt to undercut for the lead. Mercedes did not respond immediately, but was forced to pit a couple of laps later when a safety car was required for Carlos Sainz hitting Lance Stroll at Turn 1.
