Bearing failure the cause of Hamilton engine blow-out in Malaysia

Japanese Grand Prix – Mercedes have revealed that a big-end bearing failure was the cause of the Malaysian engine blow-out Lewis Hamilton suffered. “Our analysis has shown that Lewis’ engine suffered a big-end bearing failure in Malaysia,” Mercedes posted on social media. “This happened without warning after 618 km and was preceded by a loss of oil pressure in Turn 15.” Hamilton was leading the race when the issue hit him with just 15 laps of the Grand Prix remaining, handing victory to Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo.
