Resurfaced Sepang three seconds faster, says Pirelli

Pirelli says the new Sepang asphalt has made the circuit around three seconds faster than last year, after cars lapped much quicker in Friday practice. Lewis Hamilton's best time from Friday was nearly five seconds quicker than in 2015, but the Briton's quickest lap was set with soft tyres, not available at Sepang last year, when the medium compound was the softest. Pirelli technical boss Mario Isola says that the use of the soft tyre in Malaysia alongside the medium and hard had an impact on the times compared with 2015, but believes that the new surface also made a significant contribution. Times are expected to challenge the long established lap record in qualifying tomorrow....
