Nicolas Carpentiers’ technical review of the first half of the 2016 Formula One season includes rare, quirky images so you can virtually stay inside the teams’ garages during the summer break. MERCEDES – A WELL-HIDDEN SECRET The image above confirms the very original positioning of the Mercedes intercooler on the W07, which F1i revealed last June. The air-to-water device sits quite low within the carbon monocoque, in between the driver and power unit. On the other three cars powered by the PU106C – the Williams FW38, Force India VJM09, and Manor MRT05 – this intercooler is implemented in the sidepods.
