Sainz penalised for gearbox change
Carlos Sainz will lose five places on the grid for the Canadian Grand Prix after being hit with a gearbox-change penalty. The Spaniard crashed against the Wall of Champions during Q2, causing a red flag and winding up down in 16th position. Although the damage to his car did not appear to be too heavy, Toro Rosso has replaced its gearbox ahead of the race. Sainz was set to start from 15th after a three-place penalty to teammate Daniil Kvyat was applied. Since the gearbox was not used for six consecutive races, Sainz will be handed a five-place grid penalty that will drop him down the order.
