Concern after tyre failures in China

Nico Rosberg headed Lewis Hamilton in a first practice session at the Chinese Grand Prix disrupted by three tyre failures on two separate cars. Felipe Massa suffered two left-rear tyre failures and Kevin Magnussen one on his Renault. Both used the 'soft' tyre of the three Pirelli options. The session was stopped for nearly half an hour while officials launched an investigation into what had happened. Pirelli said the Williams failures were not punctures but "technical trouble". The company did not clarify whether this was with the tyre itself or with the car. It said investigations into Magnussen's failure were still ongoing.
