Sainz Jr tops wet first practice in Japan

Toro Rosso driver Carlos Sainz Jr had the quickest lap in a wet first practice session for the Japanese Grand Prix. The Spaniard clocked 1 minute, 49.434 seconds, half a second ahead of Red Bull's Daniil Kvyat with Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg third. Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo was one of eight who drivers who chose not to set a time, with rain falling and several drivers complaining about aquaplaning in the closing stages. World champion Lewis Hamilton finished fifth, two-tenths behind Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel. Toro Rosso's Max Verstappen was sixth, ahead of Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen. Conditions are expected to improve for second practice, which takes place later on...
