Smoky sixth for Ricciardo

Red Bull Racing's Daniel Ricciardo equalled his best result of the season and took sixth in the Bahrain Grand Prix, but only just, with his Renault power unit spectacularly detonating just as he crossed the finish line. Ricciardo had a pretty quiet afternoon and after gaining a place when Felipe Massa had electrical problems on the grid and had to start from the pit lane, the Australian eventually finished more than 20 seconds ahead of Romain Grosjean in P7 and that was despite the rather ignominious end. “Just out of the last corner it just went up in smoke,” Ricciardo said at the finish. “We'll have to see how severe it is, of course.
