FIA to launch investigation into Alonso's test crash

The FIA has confirmed it will investigate the cause of Fernando Alonso's test crash which happened on Sunday during the second pre-season test. The Spaniard was knocked unconscious when he struck the trackside wall according to McLaren, he was then airlifted to hospital where he remained for three nights. The FIA doesn't regulate the tests as they're privately organised amongst the teams, therefore it doesn't often investigate testing incidents such as Alonso's. However due to the length of time spent in hospital, the FIA feels it is necessary to see if they can learn anything from the crash to avoid a repeat in future.
