F1: Vergne joins Ferrari

Toro Rosso reject Jean-Eric Vergne has been thrown an F1 lifeline by Ferrari, after the Scuderia confirmed he has been appointed as one of its test drivers. Vergne will work on car development in the simulator, the Maranello team added, while Pedro de la Rosa has been dropped. Vergne's appointment comes after Esteban Gutierrez was announced as the team's test and third driver earlier this week. Marc Gene and Davide Rigon both remain on Ferrari's books as testers. “I feel very honoured to be joining the Ferrari family and becoming a part of the most prestigious team in the history of F1,” said Vergne. “The objective is a unanimous one and that is to help the Scuderia get back to the...
