FIA open to double points rethink

Red Bull/Getty Images FIA president Jean Todt has hinted that there could be a rethink on the current Formula 1 regulation which awards double points to the last round of the season. The rule, which was voted on unanimously by the Formula 1 Strategy Group, was introduced for the 2014 season but has been met with backlash from senior figures within the sport and the majority of fans. The six teams in Formula 1's Strategy Group failed to unite and oppose the rule change for 2014 after the initial backlash but Todt, who is not opposed to double points, has acknowledged that the opposition from fans means that the sport's governing body could discuss the matter at the end of the year.
