Pourchaire protected from ‘brutal’ early Alfa promotion

Frederic Vasseur says Formula 1 would be 'brutal' for Theo Pourchaire given his lack of experience, hence why Alfa Romeo did not promote him.  The Swiss-based team were the last on the grid to confirm their driver line-up for the 2022 campaign. While it was announced relatively early that Valtteri Bottas would replace Kimi Raikkonen, who would partner the Finn remained unclear for quite some time with Pourchaire, Guanyu Zhou, Antonio Giovinazzi, Oscar Piastri and Colton Herta all contenders. Zhou was ultimately chosen despite the fact he was from Alpine's academy, while Pourchaire is a part of their own young driver pool.
