Mercedes engines do by far the least laps during test

What struck us most about the winter test in Bahrain were the problems Mercedes were facing. When looking at the average number of laps per engine supplier, there is clearly a problem with all teams with Mercedes engines. Few test laps for Mercedes and Aston Martin The drivers of Mercedes and Aston Martin would have preferred to do more laps during the winter test. Both teams suffered from gearbox problems. This is also reflected in the average number of laps driven by the Mercedes engines. When the total number of laps driven by the Mercedes teams is divided by the four teams it comes down to about 329.5 laps per team. This while the average of the three Ferrari-teams is 406.6 laps.
