Formula 1 loses major tv broadcasting deal

Negotiations between Middle East broadcaster BeIN Sports and Formula 1 have broken down over ongoing piracy issues with Saudi Arabia outlet, beoutQ. A five-year contract extension from 2020 onwards was said to be on the table for BeIN Sports, but they are not prepared to commit to a new deal. BeIN Sport said last summer that the piracy concerns were to play a big factor in negotiations and the assurances they were looking for have not materialised. Tom Keaveny, managing director of BeIN, suggested in a statement that FOM have only gone as far as giving ‘lip service' to beoutQ about the piracy issue.
