Hamilton facing backlash from "slums" comment

Lewis Hamilton is facing a backlash from a comment he made about his hometown Stevenage during an on-stage interview at BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year awards. Hamilton was among the nominees for the main prize and finished second behind cyclist Geraint Thomas. While talking to Gabby Logan he said, “It’s been a really long journey, a dream for us all, as a family, to do something different, to get out of the slums.” "Well, we would say it's not the slums, but just come out from somewhere and do something."
