Raikkonen says UltraSoft tyres were never an option for Ferrari

Monaco Grand Prix – Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen says his team never considered trying to get through Q2 on the UltraSoft tyre after Mercedes tried to brave it out on the alternate compound. Peeling out onto the track for Q2, Mercedes decided to send both their drivers out on the UltraSoft tyre, the compound one step harder than the HyperSoft that everyone else was using. The rules are that drivers must start the race on the tyres they go quickest with in Q2, so starting on the UltraSoft would be advantageous for the first stint of the race – provided that you can get through the Q2 session without being eliminated.
