Alonso wants to see Zhou ‘in Formula 1 soon'
Fernando Alonso has followed up his praise of Guanyu Zhou by saying he hopes he can “get into Formula 1 soon”. Zhou is a prominent member of the Alpine Academy and was given his first FP1 outing by the team at the Austrian Grand Prix in Alonso’s car. It was a clean and competitive session for the Chinese driver, who completed 29 laps of the Red Bull Ring and was 14th in the timings – splitting the two Aston Martins, 0.434sec behind Esteban Ocon in the other Alpine. Currently leading the F2 Championship by five points after two race wins this year, Zhou impressed Alonso who has developed a good relationship with the 22-year-old from Shanghai – and sees him as a potential F1 rival...
