Sainz ‘misjudged’ speed through ‘really narrow’ bollard chicane

Carlos Sainz has accepted blame for his collision with the wall that eliminated him from contention on the opening lap of Sunday’s Russian Grand Prix. The rules throughout the weekend have stipulated that drivers who run wide at Turn 2 must rejoin via a chicane outlined by polystyrene blocks, which feeds them into Turn 3. Sainz ran wide after Lance Stroll attempted to overtake him on the inside of Turn 2, which required him to take to the run-off area. However in his attempt to return to the circuit the McLaren driver miscalculated his speed when re-joining and clipped the wall. “It was a very poor start for everyone starting on the right-hand side of the grid,” Sainz reflected....
