Verstappen admits he didn't see 'incredible win' coming

Max Verstappen says he didn't expect to front run his Mercedes rivals in Sunday's 70th Anniversary Grand Prix, but Red Bull's bold tyre strategy worked to perfection for the Dutchman. The seed of Verstappen's ninth career win in F1 were sowed in Saturday's qualifying session when the 22-year-old relied on Pirelli's hard compound to set his fastest lap in Q2, thus defining the tyre he would start his race on while his rivals launched their race on the medium compound. Verstappen took the lead when Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton pitted early, the Red Bull charger stretching out his first stint before pitting for a set off mediums.
