Williams sponsor seeking clarification over Kubica retirement
Williams sponsor PKN Orlen say they want answers from the team regarding Robert Kubica's withdrawal from the Russian Grand Prix. Robert Kubica retired midway through the Russian Grand Prix at the Sochi Autodrom, just a lap after teammate George Russell retired with a mechanical failure that sent him into the barriers. The reason for Kubica's retirement, having come into the pits under his own power, were unclear at the time. A statement from Williams that evening explained that, as they weren't in points contention, they opted to retire Kubica so they could ‘conserve parts' for the remainder of the season.
