Alonso: New contract a long-term deal
The announcement may have stated that Fernando Alonso will 'contest the 2018 championship' with McLaren, however, the Spaniard says his new contract is a 'long-term' deal. McLaren announced on Thursday that Alonso had re-signed for next season putting an end to speculation about the Spaniard's future. But while the team confirmed that he would race alongside Stoffel Vandoorne in 2018, there was no mention of the duration of the contract. Asked in Thursday's press conference if it was just for 2018, Alonso replied: 'No. 'We never discuss the contract clauses and we are not going to do it now, but it's a long-term contract and we'll see how things go.
