Japanese GP starting grid with penalties applied

The provisional starting grid for Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix will see five drivers launching their race from a demoted position thanks to penalties. The cars of Fernando Alonso, Carlos Sainz and Jolyon Palmer took on additional power unit elements and are subsequently demoted 35, 20 and 20 spots on the grid. Mercedes Valtteri Bottas who qualified second and Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen who qualified sixth lose five places following gearbox changes.
