F1 to focus on 'shield' system for 2018

– Formula 1 is to favour a 'shield' head protection device for the 2018 season, rather than the previously proposed 'halo' system, following a meeting of the Commission and Strategy Group on Tuesday.Formula 1 has previously preferred to develop the 'halo' device, which wraps around the cockpit in the form of three struts, with the system trialled during practice sessions and tests.Increased head protection was initially scheduled to be introduced for the 2017 season, but this was delayed by a year as further analysis was undertaken on the available options.It has now emerged that the FIA now favours a transparent shield, which is set to be tested later in the season, ahead of...
