McLaren Honda finding positives in early engine problems

Barcelona Testing – McLaren and Honda are finding the positives of having early engines problems during pre-season testing. Both Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne lost large quantities of their inaugural runs on Monday and Tuesday, due to two power unit failures which required complete engine changes. “We feel sorry for the drivers and Eric [Boullier]. But it is good to find an issue in the test, especially on the first day. I think we can gain from data from the issue,” said Yusuke Hasegawa, head of Honda’s Formula One project. After the first engine was sent back to Japan, Honda seniors suspected that the oil tank design could be the root of the issue, requiring a redesign....
