Max Verstappen wins Sportsman of the Year in the Netherlands
Max Verstappen was awarded Sportsman of the Year in the Netherlands during a ceremony in his home country on Wednesday. The Dutch youngster started the 2016 Formula 1 season with Toro Rosso, before being promoted to Red Bull Racing after four races. He immediately settled into his new team, taking victory on his Red Bull debut in Spain to become F1’s youngest ever winner. Verstappen went on to collect six further podium finishes in 2016 and finished the year fifth in the championship. He went up against Olympic windsurfing gold medallist Dorian van Rijsselberghe, Olympic swimming gold medallist Ferry Weertman (swimming), cyclist Tom Dumoulin and speed skater Sven Kramer.
