Bite-size tech: Renault RE16 rear wing and cooling changes
Renault has been relatively quiet this season given the RE16 was compromised by its protracted birth, which meant the designers had to consider the difference in installation of a Mercedes or Renault power unit. For Monza, the team has a reduced-load rear wing available, which features shorter chord flaps, less angle of attack and a reduction in the endplate louvres to two. For FP3, Jolyon Palmer’s car was outfitted with a new cooling package as the team looks toward some of the flyaways to improve the cooling capacity of the car. This consists of additional cooling around the shoulders of the cockpit (can be seen in the image above), which features several louvres to displace the airflow...
