Button scores as Alonso loses out on fuel-saving

German Grand Prix – Jenson Button scored four points for McLaren with eighth in Hockenheim, whilst Fernando Alonso’s late fuel-saving cost him a points-paying position. After the disappointment of not making it into Q3, Button had a good start to put him ninth by the end of the first lap; a position which he maintained towards the end of the race despite needing to save fuel for the notoriously thirsty Honda engine. In the latter stages of the race Button began to reel in Valtteri Bottas, who was making one stop less and struggling for rear grip as his tyres degraded.
