Rosberg beats Hamilton to Germany pole

Mercedes AMG Petronas Nico Rosberg secured pole position for his home race as he beat Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton during qualifying at Hockenheim. Rosberg recovered from an electronics issue on his first Q3 run to sweep to top spot with a time of 1:14.363. Rosberg’s lap proved to be 0.107s up on Hamilton, who drifted slightly wide at Turn 1 and locked up into the hairpin on his final effort. It nonetheless proved to be quicker than his benchmark as he rounded out an all-Mercedes front row.
