2016 German GP preview quotes – McLaren-Honda Hockenheim was built in 1929 as a test track for Mercedes Benz. It first hosted the German Grand Prix in 1970, although it only became the permanent home of the race in ’77, following Niki Lauda’s accident at the Nürburgring Nordschleife the previous year. #14 Fernando Alonso “I’m pleased to be heading back to Hockenheim after we missed a race in Germany in 2015.
