Last minute grid penalty for Carlos Sainz

Canadian Grand Prix – Carlos Sainz has been given a five place grid penalty ahead of the race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The Spanish racer hit the Wall of Champions during Q2 on Saturday, glancing his right rear wheel off the wall. This broke the suspension and pitched his Toro Rosso into the wall, resulting in Sainz bumping and scraping his way along the entirety of the pit straight before coming to a stop. The damage has resulted in Toro Rosso needing to change the gearbox on the car, triggering an automatic five place grid penalty.
