Montreal FP 1: Hamilton fastest as Massa crashes heavily

Lewis Hamilton topped the timing screens at the end of the first free practice of the Canadian Grand Prix weekend, a session that was marred by a heavy crash involving Felipe Massa – the Brazilian walking away uninjured. Monaco winner, Hamilton finished three-tenths up on Mercedes team mate Nico Rosberg. Sebastian Vettel was third for Ferrari, albeit half a second’s off the benchmark time. The world champion clocked his quickest lap on Pirelli’s red band supersoft tyres, while Rosberg’s best was set on the purple ultrasoft compound. Max Verstappen was the leading Red Bull runner in fourth, followed by the second Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen and the Williams of Valtteri Bottas....
