Monaco organisers toughen drain covers after Button scare

Monaco Grand Prix organisers have worked on extra welding of drain covers overnight, after the Jenson Button incident during the first free practice session. Button's front wing was destroyed after he hit a loose drain cover that had been flicked up by the Mercedes of Nico Rosberg. Following an inspection of the cover by F1 race director Charlie Whiting, it emerged that the 25cm by 25cm inspection hatch had cracked and come loose - despite having been welded in four places prior to the cars taking to the track. In light of the incident, the FIA asked Monaco organisers to inspect all the other drain covers on the track - and weld down the more vulnerable ones much more to ensure there could...
