Vettel gets five-place grid drop for gearbox change
Sebastian Vettel will get a five-place grid penalty for the Russian Grand Prix following a gearbox change ahead of qualifying. Despite being second fastest overall in the afternoon session on Friday, the German had a frustrating time when his car stopped on track with a suspected electronic problem. But to add a further blow to his bid to deliver a first victory of the season, Vettel will now be fitted with a new gearbox. That will mean he takes a five-place grid penalty at Sochi. It is unclear, however, if the gearbox change is related to what happened in Friday practice or is purely as the result of something the team discovered after the Chinese Grand Prix.
