Hulkenberg gets penalty for wheel failure

Sahara Force India Stewards at the Chinese Grand Prix have imposed a three-place grid penalty on Nico Hulkenberg after his left front wheel detached from his car during qualifying on Saturday. Hulkenberg was on a slow lap when his wheel worked loose as he rounded Turn 10, and detached from his VJM09, eventually coming to a halt by the side of the track. Hulkenberg had set a lap time quick enough to ensure his progression through to Q3, but he was unable to participate in the session due to his stoppage. The German driver will now drop to 13th place on the grid, promoting Williams' Felipe Massa and McLaren pair Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button.
