FIA clarifies new elimination-style F1 qualifying rules ahead of Australian GP

The FIA has clarified the new elimination-style Formula 1 qualifying format with the publication of the sporting regulations for the 2016 season. The F1 Commission voted unanimously in favour of the new format at a meeting in Geneva last month before the decision was ratified by the World Motor Sport Council. F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone did claim that the introduction of the new format would be delayed until the Spanish Grand Prix as the timing software still needed to be written, but this has since been resolved to ensure its implementation in Australia next weekend. Drivers will be eliminated at 90-second intervals throughout qualifying in the existing Q1/Q2/Q3 structure...
