FIA publishes new qualifying regulations

– Formula 1's live knockout qualifying system has been officially cleared for the upcoming season, which gets under way with the Australian Grand Prix next weekend, after the FIA added it to the rulebook.Formula 1 gave the format the initial go-ahead during meetings of the F1 Strategy Group and F1 Commission at the end February, with the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) ratifying it early this month.A week on from its formal approval, the FIA has published the new qualifying rules in full.Under the new format, Q1, Q2 and Q3 – used since 2006 – will all remain in place.Q1 will run for 16 minutes, with the slowest car dropping out after seven minutes, and another falling every 90...
