Räikkönen debuts head protection proposal

– Ferrari driver Kimi Räikkönen has publicly debuted a prototype of the 'halo' head protection system which could be adopted into the Formula 1 regulations from the start of 2017.Räikkönen ran with the device fitted to his SF16-H at the start of the third day of testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.Increasing head protection has been a primary issue for the sport across recent years, with the urge for advancement accelerated by the deaths of Jules Bianchi and Justin Wilson.At last week's meeting of the Strategy Group and F1 Commission is was concluded that a form of cockpit protection would be introduced for 2017, with the 'Halo' option the preferred choice.
