FIA to retire Bianchi's race number

The FIA has confirmed that Jules Bianchi’s number 17 will be presently retired as a mark of respect to the Frenchman. In tribute to Bianchi, who died late on Friday night from injuries he suffered in an accident at the Japanese Grand Prix, the number will no longer be used. Bianchi raced with the #17 during the 2014 season after his original options – #7, #27 and #77 – were taken by other drivers. “Jean Todt, President of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) announced that the car number 17 will be retired from the FIA Formula One World Championship in honour of Jules Bianchi,” read a statement by the FIA. “As F1 car numbers are now personally chosen...
