Rosberg recovers from problem to go top

Mercedes AMG Petronas Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg bounced back from early gearbox woes to post the quickest time during the opening practice session for the British Grand Prix. Rosberg led the preliminary stages of running but had to stop his W06 Hybrid on track due to a hydraulic fault in his gearbox, after which team-mate Lewis Hamilton moved to the front, having survived an early spin exiting Stowe. Hamilton looked set to stay quickest but Rosberg returned to the track during the final 10 minutes and went 0.01s quicker at the front, before improving his own time by a further 0.06s, to sit 0.07s faster with a 1:34.274.
