Alonso explains ‘strange' Raikkonen crash
Fernando Alonso has explained the “strange” collision with Kimi Raikkonen which forced both drivers out on the opening lap of the Austrian Grand Prix. A swerving Raikkonen collected Alonso out of Turn 2, pushing the Spaniard into the barriers. Alonso’s McLaren then mounted the Ferrari, riding over the top of Raikkonen’s car where it came to rest. “I got a good start, and made up a lot of places into Turn 1 and Turn 2,” said Alonso. “Kimi ahead of me had started on the Prime tyre, and he exited Turn 2 with a lot of wheelspin – I went to overtake him and he lost the car to the left, and that’s exactly where I was – so we both went into the wall. “Luckily, we’re both...
