Hamilton powers to his first ever Monaco pole position

Lewis Hamilton claimed his first ever Monaco Grand Prix pole position with spectacular lap around the twists and turns of the sport's most glamourous venue, and with it stumping his Mercedes teammate, and last year's winner, Nico Rosberg. Hamilton's best lap of 1:15.098 was 0.342 seconds faster than Rosberg, prompting the German to abort his final flying lap and concede the most vital top spot starting slot of the season to the reigning world champion. Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel, who a few hours earlier in FP3 was fastest, did not deliver on the promise and had to settle for third, three quarters of a second adrift of the top time.
