Hamilton edges Rosberg for Chinese GP pole

Lewis Hamilton will start on pole position for the third round of the 2015 Formula 1 World Championship after doing just enough to keep Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg at bay in qualifying for the Chinese Grand Prix. Fastest in all three practice sessions, Hamilton came into qualifying as the hot favourite for pole position, a status he firmed when he laid down a strong initial benchmark of 1min 35.782secs on his opening lap in Q3. Failing to improve on it during his second run, Hamilton instead came under renewed pressure from Rosberg's last gasp lap, but the audibly frustrated German would fall just four hundredths shy as Mercedes once again locked out the front row.
