2nd April 2006 – Win number 10 for Alonso
On this day, nine years ago, Fernando Alonso claimed his tenth career victory at the Australian Grand Prix. Despite starting third behind Honda's Jenson Button – who had scored their last pole position in Formula One to date – and team-mate Fisichella, Alonso's brushed aside the entire field to take a comfortable victory for Renault. The only thing that had kept second-place Kimi Raikkonen (McLaren) in the race for the lead was the frequent appearance of the safety car in a stop/start race. Ralf Schumacher scored his final podium in F1 by finishing third for Toyota. Alonso had already claimed the 2005 title and looked well on his way to achieving his second crown after winning...
