Vettel splits the Mercs, Raikkonen fails to advance to Q3

Ferrari’s new man Sebastian Vettel looked tidy in a qualifying session that raised questions of whether the Maranello outfit could in fact challenge Mercedes’ dominant duo. The German, widely regarded as a qualifying specialist, split pole-sitter Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg: moreover, his gap to Hamilton’s pole time was a mere .074 seconds. Vettel appeared optimistic in the aftermath of qualifying, saying, “We can challenge. If rain comes and hits the track at the right moment, that can be quite good.” However, despite performing well in race simulations during free practice sessions, Vettel refuses to go as far as saying that Ferrari can challenge Mercedes over the season....
