Melbourne confirmed to host season-opener until 2020

It has been confirmed that the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park is guaranteed first-race status as part of the contract renewal from 2016-2020. Since the move to Melbourne in 1996, the track has kick-started the campaign every year apart from 2006 and 2010, when Bahrain took the honours. Local media Fairfax has revealed Melbourne's new race contract until 2020 stipulates the season-opening slot for the race around Albert Park. 'We have clauses in there about (it being) the first race of the season,' Australian Grand Prix Association chief Andrew Westacott said.
