Magnussen to replace Alonso for the Australian Grand Prix

McLaren have confirmed that Fernando Alonso will miss the first race of the 2015 season, following advice from his doctors. The 33-year-old crashed heavily in the final pre-season test at Barcelona, causing a concussion and a stay in hospital which forced him to miss the final few days of testing. Whilst it was initially thought that Alonso would return for the season-opener in Australia, having been given the all-clear by the doctors, McLaren have confirmed that Kevin Magnussen will substitute for the two-time world champion, despite the Dane recently admitting that he does not feel ready to stand-in for Alonso.
