Bottas surprised at Mercedes' pace

Sutton Images Enlarge Valtteri Bottas admits the quick lap set by Nico Rosberg's Mercedes on Friday test caught the rest of the paddock by surprise. Rosberg used a set of soft tyres to post a 1:22.782 and go comfortably quicker than any other driver during winter testing at the Circuit de Catalunya. The time was 1.2s quicker than Bottas on the same tyre and nearly 0.75 faster than the previous best by Bottas' Williams team-mate Felipe Massa. "It's pretty quick," he said. "I think everyone was a bit surprised. Everyone knew they were quick, but they were very quick [today]. But that's how it is.
