Alonso airlifted to hospital following testing crash

+ Fernando Alonso has been airlifted to hospital following a crash during testing at the Circuit de Catalunya, but has been confirmed to be conscious and talking. Alonso crashed into the inside retaining wall between Turns 3 and 4, the same location as Pastor Maldonado’s accident during qualifying for last year’s Spanish Grand Prix. The Spaniard’s crash, 15 minutes from the lunch break, prompted a red flag and a premature end to the morning session. Alonso was attended to on the scene and was transferred to the media centre via ambulance. From there he was airlifted to hospital to continue with the medical examination.
